Final thoughts on the lighter and serious side.

I do not know why my final picture does not do me any justice. I assure you my friends that what I have reported is documented and factual. Some of my sisters have not seen me since Christmas. Wait till tomm. EEK The new Greg is about 40 pounds lighter since they last saw me. My face will never improve although it has gotten smaller. Some say the head of a mellon and the face of a collie. lol Hey we need some humor. Hows about that 10 inches off the waist line. Not to bad but still 12 inches to go. lol From a helium balloon to the Good Year blimp. lol Now a note on the serious side. I praise Jesus for what he has done! For without him we are nothing. Bodily exercise profitteh little, but Godliness is GREAT gain. What we need is Jesus in our lives, not kicking him out. To many people call on him when they are in trouble. Why not call on him daily before we get into trouble?
People say I am to busy to go to a church. What will they say to Jesus when they meet him? Will he be their savior or their judge? No my friends I am not trying to be self righteous. nor am I trying to use Jesus to win this contest. For you see I am already on the winning side. I got saved Jan. 19,1977. What does it mean to be saved? I will tell you. It means we receive Jesus as our personnal savior. He gives us a home in Heaven. How is this done? #1 We must admit that we are a sinner. We do things against God. For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. #2 Their is a penalty for sin. Whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. #3 For God so loved the world that he gave us his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have every lasting life. #4 What must we do in order to be saved? (Answer) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Why not ask Jesus to forgive you of your sin and ask him to come into your heart? If you would like to be saved please pray this prayer. Lord Jesus I know that I am a sinner. I ask you to please forgive me, and come into my heart. And to cleanse me from all of my sin. Please give me a home in Heaven. I am trusting you and you alone to be my Savior. Thank you for saving me Jesus in Jesus name I pray Amen. If you have trusted Jesus as your Savior through this message please email me at.

Everyone that finishes is a "CHAMPION"

A champion finishes what they begun. The way I view things is that everyone that finishes the challenge is a CHAMPION. These past two months have taught us alot about ourselves. For one thing we decided to take better care of ourselves. We were given the tools to track our progress. We have tried our best to encourage others. We have set an example that life is worth living in a healthy way. Many people lost alot of weight and we got respect for doing so. The courage that we gained from others telling us to keep going forward was very enriching. It propelled us to do what must be done, and we did it. Others that were fit committed to staying that way, and I believe they will do it. This challenge for myself personally was to hold myself accountable. I believe I have done that. From being very poor in health, wishing to go home to be with Jesus. To where I am today. No more insulin shots and no more checks! I have lost 31 pounds during this challenge. This challenge is just a temporary challenge. For the true challenge is on a day to day basis. My fellow challengers I salute you and congratulate you on a job well done! I also want to thank you for your very encouraging posts. May the Lord Jesus bless you and your families as we prepare to celebrate Easter and his wonderful ressurrection. In Christ Greg Sweitzer

When I was thinking about what to title this update many possibilities came to my mind. But if Jesus was not looking after me I probably wouldnt be here today. It has been a good journey. From finding out that on Nov.26th 2007 that I had become a diabetic. Never knowing that my blood sugar was at 652. Almost causing me to go into a coma. Then I started taking 6 shots of insulin a day. From weighing in at 317 pounds. From eating at alot of smorgasborgs. Thinking that I was getting my moneys worth. Never realizing that I was ruining my life. From a 56 inch waist. Till where I am today. My blood sugar levels are normal. Praise Jesus I no longer take insulin shots, or meter readings. I still take 2 Metphormin a day. I will be reevaluated April 16th. With a H1ac test. Then a follow up visit to the worlds Greatest Drs. on April 29th. Then they will make any corrections that they feel are necessary. Today as I sit here pecking away at my keyboard I weigh in at 267 pounds. That is a loss of 50 pounds in 3 months. I no longer eat the kind of junk that was destroying my life. I only eat nutritional foods. Oh yes I still crave Snicker bars. However I only buy them when the urge hits. And then I give them away to kids. Because with kids their energy levels will burn them off. Kids are great, I feel they are a gift from God. I am now down to a 46 inch waist. My poor wife has taken my pants in 10 inches. She has kept alot of my old clothes, and being a conservative dresser that has come in handy. I work out in the gym 8 times a week. Yeah sometimes I dread going but I know its the right thing to do. You my friends have been a Great encouragement to me. Please keep encouraging each other as we prepare for another great weekend. Well my friends I hope these updates do not bore you. But for now it is time to head off to the gym. May Jesus bless you with his mighty salvation plan. Till monday take care my friends..

I enjoy being in church on Sundays and Wednesdays. Sundays are my days off from the gym. I had another great weekend. Before I went to the gym this morning, I weighed in at 269 pounds. I was doing fat burning on the treadmill. Fat burning is where you go at lower speeds with more incline. I was able to go for two hours. Yes two hours my friends. The body is a little achy at the moment. However I feel GREAT, and I am very highly motivated. I finally got under 270 pounds. My body is getting stronger. Only 109 more pounds to go. My goal is to weigh 160 pounds by Christmas. Pray that I can stay strong. Keep encouraging one another. Your friend Greg

This morning I knew the task that was in front of me. I knew that I had to increase speed and increase my incline. I felt that I could not do it. What was I going to do? After battling my mind back and forth for a little while. I decided that I needed to pray. Then I prayed, and then I played Rockys theme songs. Then off to the gym I went. I thank Jesus that he gave me the victory. The mission was accomplished. A new high on elevation and a new high on speed. I feel really great heading into the rest of this weeks routine. Keep encouraging others and please stay determined. Greg

In the Heart of a Champion their is a burning desire to be the best they can be. Everyone that started and finishes the Golds challenge is a Champion! It is not about inches or pounds it is about setting goals. Reaching out and making our dreams happen. As I view other peoples pages, and I try to encourage them, I gain encouragement. You see Golds challenge is not a temporary thing. It is a helpful tool to get us encouraged to reach out and be a Champion. Accomplishing goals and setting new ones. Today I was on the treadmill accomplishing a personal best by going 6.44 miles. The weekend was very enjoying and fulfilling. Now for myself it is back to business of trying to be the best that I can be. Best wishes to all of the CHAMPIONS. Keep going and keep encouraging one another. Your friend. GREG

Good morning everybody. Here it is one month into the challenge. People have been very encouraging to me. And I have tried to be an encouragement to others.I am fairly happy with losing 22 pounds since the challenge began. Having lost 44 pounds since Dec. 7th is a good thing. This morning finds up to 6 inches of snow. I have a large driveway, and today was the first time that I could shovel it all without stopping to take a break. I still have alot of work to do to get to where I would like to be. I must stay focused till I cross the finish line. Our local gym was open. yippee, I must get to the gym. I went onto the treadmill on fat burner. I had to go on a slower pace to keep my heart rate at 125. So I just stayed on it for 90 minutes. Stay focused everybody, and have a GREAT weekend. Best wishes. Your friend Greg

As of 2/20/08 I have now lost 44 UNWANTED pounds. Yippee! Desirng to reach my undisclosed goal that I have set for Spring 2009, I believe that I am on my way. Only a few select people know about this goal. However I assure you my fellow challengers my goal will be met. I train in the gym 8 times a week. Four times in the morning MON. WED. and Fridays. That is when you will find me on the treadmill. ON SAT. mornings I do leg workouts. I clearly remember my first time on the treadmill. I thought to myself what is Mike doing to me? I was only going point 5 yes my friends1/2 mile / hour. And man was I dizzy only after a short while. Great news today was the first day that I was able to accomplish 6.02 miles. I am at a 4.3 mph on random at a level of 8. You may do the math if you so desire. (lol) Not to fast yet but look at the progress in about 10 weeks. Yippee! In the evenings MON., TUES, WED. and Fridays Mike has me doing upper body workouts. I am eating properly and my Dr. is extremely pleased. Keep encouraging one another. And may the Lord Jesus be with us all.
Eye of the Tiger

I got pneumonia in the second week of November 07. I did not know what was wrong with me so I went to the Emergency room. After doing various tests the Dr. told me that I had pneumonia. They gave me medications. In a week I was feeling well again. Then about 2 weeks later I was ill again. At this time I was tired of living and feeling ill all of the time. I just wanted to go to Heaven. I was extremely dehydrated. I was drinking about a gallon of milk / day. Plus about a gallon of water. I never felt this kind of sickness before. My stomache was upset but it felt like I had a knot in it. I decided to go to the Drs. office. Shortly after being at my Drs. office she asked her assistant to do a test. She did it, and replied he is not showing up. My Dr. said oh my. They were out in the hallway, I was behind a closed door. My Dr. asked her assistant to do another test. She did and again she replied. He is not showing up. Once again my Dr. said oh my. Then my Dr. opened up the door and came into my room. She had a very concerned look on her face. She said you have two choices. You can either go to the emergency room tonight or the first thing tomm. morning. I replied, by the look on your face I think you would like me to go tonight. She said I was hoping that you would say that. So I agreed and went. When I got there they began with the basics. And then they started taking blood. Then they hooked me up to ivs, and a heart monitoring machine. The nurse told the Dr. he is not showing up. The Dr. ordered other tests. They determined that my blood sugar count was at 652. Normal is 50 to 110. The nurse told me I was almost ready to go into a coma. Man what a shocker this was. That is when I changed my mind and decided that I need to make changes in my life. I did not want to hurt anyone else. Three days later I was released from the hospital. I had to take eating classes and I was taking 6 shots of insulin a day. A friend of mine Mike R. told me from now on your going to the gym with me. When I first started on the treadmill I struggled with going .5 yes point .5 1/2 mph. I got dizzy. Man what a mess I had become. Mike works out with me five times a week. He keeps encouraging me and bringing me along. Since Dec.7, 2007 I have lost 44 pounds. And now I am off of insulin. And on Feb. 11th my Dr. told me that she is extremely pleased with my progress. That in all of her years as a Dr. she has never had anyone take diabetes as serious as I have. And then do something about it. She told me that I no longer have to take checks. And that what she would like for me to do is keep working out and to continue eating properly. I still take two pills a day. But I have come a long way from where I was. Please dont feel sorry for me for it was my own fault. However if you know somebody with a eating proplem please feel free to share this with them. For I will win over my illness and I will keep the Eye of the Tiger. Beacause I have a GREAT Wife Teresa, a Great Dr., a GREAT friend Mike R, And a GREAT FAMILY SUPPORT GROUP at Golds Gym in York. Pa. best wishes to all of the challengers. Lets keep encouraging one another and lets Getter Done. Best wishes, Greg
